The Pilgrims came to America to escape oppressive government, to have freedom of speech and to separate church from State. They wanted freedom of religion without State interference. They left the controlling force of England and Europe to form an independent nation. That is why the 4th of July is called "INDEPENDECE Day". They wanted no foreign rule or alliances.
